Advent Calendar for Web Geeks

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

It has been running for a few years now, but this is a little reminder for all those coding and designing GeekDad’s out there that 24ways.org the advent calender for web geeks is doing it all again in 2009.

What is it?

24 ways is the advent calendar for web geeks. Each day throughout December we publish a daily dose of web design and development goodness to bring you all a little Christmas cheer.

It has kicked off with some tips for keeping your image rich pages nice and light using CSS3 tools.

So, if designing is your thing, go open a page each day this month.

LEGO has officially released their 2009 Advent Calendar. Observant AFOL have been picking them off store shelves for a few weeks, but those of us in rural areas can now pick them up at shop.LEGO.

This year brings both a City (7724) and Pirate (6299) themed calendar with the latter available somewhere other than the US. I was hoping for a Star Wars theme to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of Star Wars LEGO, but the city is still cool.

If you’re looking for the Pirate Advent Calendar, it is available from a few scalpers at twice the retail price, check Amazon or eBay. Alternately you could sign one of the online petitions to make it available here in the States, but I don’t think there is enough time left to get them to store shelves before Christmas.

The LEGO City Advent Calendar is available in the US at LEGO.com and Amazon for around $30.

For those of you of other faiths, there are always the LEGO Menorah , a dreidel and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. A search for some other religions and LEGO resulted in a less than flattering array of results, so if you know of any nice ones, please post links.
