Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

See, Mercedes? This is how we like our auto show ruminations about slick, compact Eurowagons coming to the US: delivered to my inbox as a date-filled press release.

Acura announced Monday they will unveil the TSX Sports Wagon at the New York Auto Show at the end of the month, and that it will be in dealers this fall. The TSX Sports Wagon, of course, is basically the awesome European-spec Accord Tourer wagon, which was captured above during a last minute testing on the Merritt Parkway. [...]

Drivetrain and engine options have yet to be announced, but I'm sure it will be highly appropriate.

Whoa, The Awesome Leander Crib Is Available In The US!

I was just surfing through Inhabitots, thinking to myself, "Day-um, I sure don't cover the emergence of every single piece of shiny, new eco-blahblahblah baby gear like I used to," when I saw that the Leander Crib/ Toddler Bed/ Kids Bed, Denmark's awesomest, molded ply, 5-way convertible masterpiece, is now available in the US! I've been watching and waiting for this since 2005! When did this happen?

Well, I did some digging, and according to this Jan. 2009 comment left by fellow Leander fan Marie on, uh, daddytypes.com, [like I said, haven't been hound doggin' the gear lately] Natart Juvenile, a traditional nursery furniture manufacturer based in Quebec, signed a North American distribution deal with Leander this year and began importing the Danish-made beds in April.

The Leander collection, which also includes the popular [in Denmark] Leander Cradle, is being handled by Natart's modern nursery furniture division, Tulip ["Today's Urban Lifestyle Inspired Products"], which is not to be confused with Aldi, the company's value nursery division [""] It's sold by special order through Natart retailers. BuybuyBaby's on the list, but my favorite has to be L'il Deb-n-Heir in Naperville, Illinois. Say it out loud a few times for fun.

At $1,650, the Leander is a mighty pricey option, but seriously? screw the "But it becomes a daybed!" nonsense. The Leander keeps right on converting into newer and bigger beds the kid can actually use right up until boarding school or Bolletieri's tennis camp, or wherever you ship kids when they turn seven.

UPDATE: Mima Totally Actually By Europe

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

See, the way blogs work is that you kind of look at something a little bit, make some pronouncement on it, and depending on how wrong you are, people who actually know will often appear to correct you.

And so it is that I learned that Mima, the Spanish baby gear startup whose strollers won the Innovation Award the other day at the big Kind + Jugend Expo in Cologne, is not an Actually By China pop-up company, but is, in fact, "new European juvenile products brand."

At least that's what Davy Kho, the Dutch designer with the Chinese name who lives and works in Spain and who'd been working on the stroller design on his own for a couple of years after designing such podtastic baby products as the Bloom Fresco high chair.

It is indeed a small, small world.

Anway, Kho also said the company's working toward a Summer 2010 release, which is obviously too late for people shopping for their first stroller right now. On the other hand, that also gives you plenty of time to conceive and have the second kid in peace, knowing that when you need a double stroller the most, Mima will be there.
