From the Editor's... Bed

It's been a long weekend. It is late Sunday night as I type this. Usually by now, all of the work for the week's TFL has been long done, but not this week. I was going to write about something cute my son did and touch on the innocence of childhood, but not now. I'm too tired, and my mind is suddenly caught up in other things.

We went to visit my folks this weekend. They're only a couple hours away, but it had been months since we had seen them. We piled in the minivan and drove down on Saturday. Overall, it was a good visit... except for the minivan breaking down at the furthest distance from home that we drove.

Yes, my van is sitting at some service station in central New York waiting to be diagnosed and repaired. I don't know when it will be done or how much it will cost to get it repaired. It's a fairly disconcerting thing, and my mind is quite pre-occupied with it all.

I am thankful, though, for our family. My parents and my wife's brother worked together to get us home--no easy task with my family of six! That's what family is for, though, right? Pulling together and helping out when times get tough. It doesn't matter who your family is composed of; what matters is that you are there for eachother. I hope my kids picked up on that today; if nothing else good comes out of this debacle, at least I'll know that it helped to reinforce the values that I want to demonstrate for my kids--values I hope they pass along some day, too.

The Father Life family pulls together this week for some good offerings. Dan Mason continues his look at Major League Baseball, this time giving an overview of the National League. If you missed it, the American League overview is available in last week's issue. I have an interveiw with Tyler Wainright, as we shine our spotlight on his blog, Building Camelot. Michael Stusser has another great installment of the "Accidental Parent," and Joseph Hollins brings us a review of Brian Culbertson's Bringing Back the Funk.

Check back later this week for a special article on the NBA Finals! If you want to be notified when the NBA article is posted, find us on Facebook. We'll send out an update there.

Until next week,

Ben
